Eating Low Carb at Disneyland
Visiting theme parks while on a special diet can be challenging, especially when you smell the fresh popped popcorn and the delicious churros at every turn!
However, with some willpower and preplanning, you can have a great day and still leave feeling full and satisfied.
I pack a travel cup of water (free refill stations throughout the parks!), a snack sized bag of almonds or sunflower seeds, and my own green apple. You can buy these things in the park, but I have them on hand so I prefer to bring them and buy my larger meals onsite.
Snack locations- Both Disneyland and California Adventure are now offering healthy snacks in multiple locations. Some of the offerings include dill pickles, mango slices, apple slices, grapes, watermelon (in season), hummus, celery and carrot sticks, along with an assortment of juices and water. These stands are located on park maps, and can be found in several spots.
In Disneyland- at Main Street Lockers, find a stand located right in front of the lockers to the left of Starbucks, in Tomorrowland across from the Star Trader store, located at the exit of Space Mountain and Star Tours, in Frontierland, located just to the right of the Mark Twain loading dock, in Critter Country, just across from the Splash Mountain entrance, past the Harbor Galley.
In California Adventure- Just inside on Buena Vista Street on the right hand side, in Hollywood Land past Smoozie's, across from Animation Academy, in Carsland at Fillmore's Filling Station. I don't know of any others, but hopefully a new location is put in after Pixar Pier is completed to bring healthy options to that side of the park.
All popcorn and churro carts sell bottled water.
Small cups of ice water are available for free at any food stand that has a soda fountain.
Meal locations- both parks have a salad option at all sit down dining locations. You may have to remove the croutons or wonton strips, however that is just fine to do to keep the salad low carb.
At Pacific Wharf Cafe you can order a chicken salad in a bread bowl, and ask them to hold the bread bowl. It is so sad to have to decline it, but it is high in carbs and you will just regret the cheating!
One of my favorite options is at Taste Pilot's Grill. There I order a bacon cheeseburger, hold the bun. And a side of coleslaw instead of fries.
They have a diy condiment table that contains lettuce, tomato, pickles, banana peppers, red onion, and assorted dressings. I turn my cheeseburger into a delicious salad!
At Disneyland at Coca cola corner, you can order an all beef hotdog with a side of sliced apples, hold the bun. Just add some mustard, slice and eat the hot dog and save the apples for later if you didn't bring your own! There are so many options, and I am just starting to discover them all!
